Introduction

Since a number of my friends at WMRR are getting into blogging about their new or planned layouts, I thought I would get into the act too!

The prototype for this layout is the Milton Branch of the New Haven RR which branched from the Old Colony line that ran from Boston south through Quincy and Braintree just before the Neponset River bridge and ran through Dorchester and Milton. In addition my layout will include the trolley line between Ashmont and Mattapan, currently an extension of the MBTA Red Line.

My era will be the late 1950's / early 1960's when the line existed primarily to service the Baker Chocolate complex along the Neponset River. In addition I am including some industries in Dorchester that were actually served off of a spur that diverged from the Old Colony main near Savin Hill. Although that spur is long gone, if one rides the Red Line through the area, there is still an overpass where the transit lines are elevated just south of Savin Hill station and one can see the old track bed. The Milton branch itself is also long gone (as is baker Chocolate although the brand still exists) and is now used as a hiking trail.
